Care instructions for alcohol inks on mugs
After making, these are generally left to cure for a day or two, then ‘fired’ in the oven. Where possible, they will be left to cure for a further 30 days. Because no sealer (eg acrylic spray-on top coat) is considered food-safe, only the ‘painted’ section is sealed with two coats of a dishwasher safe sealer. This means that they are also, in theory, dishwasher safe. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend anything other than hand washing with regular detergent and a soft sponge (no scourers!). I do put mine in the dishwasher from time to time, and find that it can dull the intensity of colour depending on the colours used. Do not soak for too long, or put in the microwave. Although cured and ‘cooked’ alcohol inks are not entirely colour fast and can fade if left in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
